Aim and Scope

Scope of the Journal

  • underwater research and robotics fundamental problems;
  • underwater vehicles, robot systems and techniques;
  • underwater navigation and control;
  • information and control models and architectures;
  • direct and remote sensing methods of ocean research ( acoustic, geophysical, physicochemical and landscape investigations);
  • ocean resources development (Marine Geology, Power-Engineering, Biotechnology, Ecology and water environment monitoring);
  • marine expeditions, underwater survey, deepwater tests and technical experiments.

The Journal is published in Russian. The Journal contents and abstracts are published in Russian and in English.

The federal service for supervision of communications, information technology, and mass media.
Registration Certificate: ПИ № ФС77-77237 of 25 November 2019.

Authors of publications are top-level researchers, renowned and young scholars of scientific communities and higher education institutions of Russia including the Far East, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Ural, Siberia, and other countries. The Journal engages the leading experts to peer-review the articles submitted.

Readership of the Journal is made by researchers community involved in underwater investigations.

Peer-Review

  1. It takes a month for the Editorial Board of the Journal «Underwater Investigations and Robotics» to make the editorial decision on accepting a submission for publication.
  2. All submissions for publication are subject to a peer review process.
  3. The first review stage determines:
    • if the article submitted fits the scope of the Journal and its contents;
    • if the article submitted meets the Journal format standards;
    • if the language of the article suits the scientific style;
    • if the article submitted provides statistics, charts, diagrams, illustrations that verify the results of the Investigation.
  4. If the article submitted meets the abovementioned requirements, the manuscript is subject to peer reviewing. The article is peer-reviewed by a subject matter expert. The expert evaluates:
    • if the contents of the paper corresponds to its title;
    • if the issue is urgent;
    • if the article statements have scientific novelty;
    • if the Investigation results have theoretical and applied relevance.
  5. The expert returns his review to the Editorial Board within 15 days. The review provides his recommendations on accepting or rejecting the manuscript for publication.
  6. The reviewer also points out the amendments for the author to introduce.
  7. If the manuscript is rejected for publication the reviewer is to render the valid reasons for rejection.
  8. The review is to be in printed and electronic forms; it is to be signed by the reviewer and certified with a seal of his\her affiliating institution.
  9. Originals of reviews are kept by the Editorial Board of of the Journal «Underwater Investigation and Robotics»
  10. The Editorial Board has a right to perform scientific and literary editing of an article.
  11. The Editorial Board informs the author of the manuscript of the peer review results and publication dates within a month after the manuscript submission.

The Editorial Board provides the author with a free copy of the issue with the article published.

 

Publishing Ethics

The Editorial Board of the Journal «Underwater Investigations and Robotics » applies the principles of «The Code of Publication Ethics» developed and approved by the Committee of Publication Ethics.

Ethical Principles for Editors.

An editor of a peer-reviewed journal is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. This makes him apply the following guiding principles in his work:

  1. When making his decision the editor should rely on valid data and evaluate the scientific urgency of the study in question.
  2. The editor should evaluate the intellectual meaning of a manuscript without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, social or political status of authors.
  3. Unpublished data of manuscripts submitted shouldn’t be used for one’s own purposes or passed to the third party without written consent of the author. Either information or ideas obtained in the process of reviewing must be kept confidential and not used for anyone’s benefit.
  4. An editor should be alert to intellectual property issues and prevent the manuscript from being published if there are reasons to think that it is plagiarism.
  5. Both an editor and a publisher should respond to complaints concerning a peer-reviewed manuscript or a published paper. They should take measures to resolve a conflict and to restore the violated rights.

Ethical Principles for Reviewers.

A reviewer performs peer review of manuscripts submitted therefore he should have an unbiased approach basing on the following principles:

  1. Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document not to be passed to or discussed with the third unauthoritative party.
  2. Reviews should be objective and argumentative. Personal criticism is inappropriate.
  3. Unpublished data of manuscripts submitted must not be used for reviewer's benefit.
  4. If an expert feels not qualified enough to evaluate the manuscript or there is a conflict between him and the author he should ask an editor to have him suspended from reviewing the manuscript in question.
  5. Privileged information or ideas obtained in the process of peer reviewing must be kept confidential and not used for anyone’s personal benefit. Experts must not perform review of manuscripts if there is a conflict of interests due to competing relations of authors, companies or institutions relevant to studies or manuscripts.

Ethical Principles for Authors

Authors should realize that they are responsible for novelty and faithfulness of research results thus should follow the principles:

  1. Authors of manuscripts must provide valid research data. Either false or fabricated data is unacceptable.
  2. Authors must ensure that the research data provided in the manuscript is totally original. If the author refers to somebody’s statements, quotations should be keyed to the specific source. Too much citing as well as plagiarism in all its forms including unquoted statements, paraphrasing or appropriating somebody’s scientific property are unethical and unacceptable.
  3. Authors should admit the contribution made by all those who has influenced the investigation process and cite the studies important for their investigation.
  4. Authors must neither submit a manuscript to two journals at the same time nor submit the article that has already been published in the other journal.
  5. All those who have made significant contributions to the investigation should be listed as co-authors. Persons who did not take part in the study are prohibited for including in the list of co-authors.
  6. If an author discovers any significant errors or omissions in the article at the stage of its peer-reviewing or after publishing he should inform editors of the journal about it within the shortest possible time.

The Editorial Board employs independent experts for peer review of manuscripts submitted for publication. Persons selected should have adequate experience and no conflict of interest.

Editorial conflicts of interest should be announced. Editors should avoid taking decisions about papers concerning a conflict of interest.

Publication in “Underwater Investigations and Robotics" is free of charge for all the authors.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.

Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

 

Plagiarism detection

"Underwater Investigations and Robotics" use native russian-language plagiarism detection software Antiplagiat to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.

 

Preprint and postprint Policy

Prior to acceptance and publication in "Underwater Investigations and Robotics", authors may make their submissions available as preprints on personal or public websites.

As part of submission process, authors are required to confirm that the submission has not been previously published, nor has been submitted. After a manuscript has been published in "Underwater Investigations and Robotics" we suggest that the link to the article on journal's website is used when the article is shared on personal or public websites.

Glossary (by SHERPA)

Preprint - In the context of Open Access, a preprint is a draft of an academic article or other publication before it has been submitted for peer-review or other quality assurance procedure as part of the publication process. Preprints cover initial and successive drafts of articles, working papers or draft conference papers.
 
Postprint - The final version of an academic article or other publication - after it has been peer-reviewed and revised into its final form by the author. As a general term this covers both the author's final version and the version as published, with formatting and copy-editing changes in place.

 

Revenue Sources

The publication of the journal is financed by the funds of the parent organization, at the expense of the publisher, publication of advertising materials, publication of reprints, article processment charges.
